Judging, AIDS Prevention Awareness & Zumba!

In early April, I had the chance to travel to Clanton, AL to Chilton County High School (middle of no-where!) and judge the Miss YMCA pageants, including ages 3-17! I was particular interested in judging this pageant because of my previous volunteer work with the YMCA near my home. It was such a fun day, and it was interesting being on the other side of the spectrum for once! It gave me a sense of what I should do while on stage performing, so it ended up being a very helpful experience. I met some wonderful people while I was there, and I even got to buy some cute shoes while I was in town. It's such a blessing to have the opportunity to make younger girls' wishes come true when they find out they won the pageant! While I was there, I visited some of Clanton's memorial sites, and I even got to go to Peach Park, where I hear the best peach ice cream in Alabama is sold! Here are some pics from that day. On a different note, I love being able to help out my fellow Miss Alabama contestants with their fundraisers for Children's Miracle Network and their personal platforms. Most recently, I attended Jamie Brooks's, Miss Rocket City's, AIDS Awareness concert located in Clay, Alabama. It was a huge success, and it was a blast to watch all of the performers. I am so proud to call her one of my good friends, and she has been such a helpful person during my first year in the Miss AL program!

Another opportunity I had was to attend Elisabeth Chramer's, Miss Jefferson County, new zumba classes at Ridgecrest Church. It is such a blast, and I encourage everyone to attend. It is for a great cause (CMN), and it's a fun work out, as well. It is every Monday night at Ridecrest Church in Trussville at 7:30 P.M.

Teens Against Drunk Driving (Prom Week!)

I had the opportunity to inform my peers at my high school about the risks and results of drinking and driving. This has always been a big deal to me, so I thought I'd spread the word about some of the statistics and give students some tips for Prom Night. During prom week, I posted flyers around the school that each had a statistic about teenage drunk driving deaths/injuries. I believe these flyers were very helpful for the students, and one person even told me the night of prom that they encouraged him not to drive! On April 14, the day before prom, I sat outside the lunchroom with candy, and I passed out different flyers to the students who were going to prom. These flyers had a poem written by an unknown author on one side, which described a girl talking to her mom after she collided on the road with a drunk driver on prom night. This was incredibly effective, and it even made some students cry! The other side of the flyer included Prom Night tips that students can use as a guide to make their prom night a successful one. Here are some pictures from my Anti-Drinking & Driving Campaign! Click images to enlarge them.

A fun day at the YMCA

Sooo... today I had the opportunity to visit the Trussville YMCA Spring Break Camp and get to know the 6-8 year-olds. I read a story to them, and I also talked to them about good and bad habits. It is such a rewarding experience to see the kids' faces and to be able to interact with them. A big THANKS to Fred Hatcher for letting me come back to the Y after being a camper there for about 8 years! Here are some pictures from my appearance today. Click the images to enlarge them!

This girl is precious! She came up to front just to tell me how much she loved my dress!
